I believe that Abigail is a victim in all this, because she was scared into all of it. She only told lies to save herself and her soul. She made a mistake by fooling around with the other girls in the forest. So in affect Abigail felt backed into a corner, and what happens what someone gets backed into a corner? She told a lie that grew into a web of lies, but if you were in the same situation, what would you have done? If you knew that what you did resulted in a hanging, would you have saved your self at the risk of another’s life? “ I want to open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! I danced with the Devil; I saw him; I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus; I kiss his hand. I saw Sarah Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the Devil!”
